INTERIOR

Kasimir uses a hollow couch to infiltrate houses. Once inside, he secretly films the owners’ lives. A few days later the couch is picked up again, with Kasimir inside: “Delivery Error“. He delivers the tapes to the brain surgeon Dr. Liebermann, who is trying to learn how to feel human emotions. While Kasimir provides him with more footage of further break-ins to prove his love, the doctor, unimpressed, prepares an awake surgery in his cellar for a young musician. Broken by unrequited love, Kasimir begins to deviate from Liebermann‘s dogma: never intervene in what happens in front of the camera. An unforgivable breach of trust for Liebermann and so he decides to determine Kasimir’s fate.

Through videos, the neurosurgeon tries to grasp what he lacks an understanding of: human emotions.

DR. LIEBERMANN

The gaunt, dressed only in a pair of underpants, rises from the couch with the elegance of a cat.

Director’s Note

INTERIOR emerged from a 1973 true crime case about burglars hiding in couches. But beyond its thriller premise, the film explores how humans live behind facades – our universal desire to uncover others‘ secrets while fiercely protecting our own. As a queer director, I’ve created a psychological thriller that examines the boundaries between reality and fiction, featuring queer protagonists without making their sexuality the focal point. Through the story of Kasimir, who escapes into others‘ lives through breaking into their homes, and his unrequited love for Dr. Liebermann, the film explores isolation, unseen love, and the fundamental question of what shapes our different realities. This isn’t just a film – it’s an exploration into the depths of the human soul.

Producer’s Note

INTERIOR was born from a universal human curiosity – that moment when you see strangers and wonder about their private lives at home. While this voyeuristic fascination drives the narrative, as producers we were particularly drawn to the project’s technical complexity. The challenge of authentically depicting diverse living spaces led us to construct extensive studio sets, making this one of the largest film school projects in our institution’s history. The film oscillates between tenderness and cruelty, requiring intricate organizational coordination among over 170 team members. Beyond just a production, it’s become a testament to collective filmmaking achievement, demonstrating how artistic vision can be realized through careful planning and collaboration. Even before post-production completion, we take immense pride in what this team effort has accomplished.
